So, I've moved into my new home in the mountains. Although it is only 60 minutes from my former home, it feels like it is a world away. I moved from a bustling tourist destination to a quiet mountain valley, from a town of more restaurant, bars and liquor stores per capita than Las Vegas to a place with one pub, three restaurants and no liquors stores, from a town of 11 coffee shops to a 'village' of none. Both, however, have one ranch, one golf course and endless hiking and biking trails. Both locations are breathtaking. Maybe they aren't so different after all. Our home is, well, homey. It has a bright kitchen, spacious living room, cozy bedroom and small office. My favorite features of our place are the sunny deck and abundant space for gardening, not to mention the free rent. I also love that I can hear the creek nearby, that the sun shines in my bedroom window each morning and that we have plenty of animals visitors. We're still getting settled and at the moment our largest problem is the serious lack of clothing storage. Currently, our clothes are in large plastic bins including classy Tupperware containers and not-so-classy recycling bins. I'm looking for ways to improve this system.
Living in a remote place has its downsides including limited social interaction, a terrible internet connection and no television or radio, leaving me lots of time to do things like gardening, cooking, sewing, home improvements , hiking, biking and exploring. That said, blogging serves two purposes. It provides me with a way of keeping family and friends updated on our happening and it gives me a reason to seek-out and complete interesting projects. I'm hoping to learn a lot in the process, so if no one follows me, at least I've done something productive with my time.
